Microwave Chemistry
State-of-the-art of microwave technology and its applications in chemistry
Microwave Chemistry describes the state-of-the-art of microwave (MW) technology and its applications in chemistry.
Despite the publication of a number of excellent books on MW chemistry and processing, there is a lack of suitable textbooks that address the needs of MS and PhD students, who need ready access to the relevant knowledge to help them appropriately design and carry out new experiments under dielectric heating. Although numerous other activation methods and technologies are accessible for conducting a chemical reaction, it is hard to imagine a chemical research laboratory without a MW reactor like a typical household kitchen. We sincerely hope that this textbook will contribute to encouraging a new generation of chemists to exploit the MW heating technique as a common tool in their research endeavours. All the eminent authors of the chapters in this textbook are steadfast MW users.

Authors
Giancarlo Cravotto

Giancarlo Cravotto is Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Department of Drug Science
and Technology at the University of Turin. He served as the Director of the department from
2007 to 2018 and as Vice-Director until October 2024. His research focuses on green organic synthesis and processing, and is supported by 600 peer-reviewed scientific papers
(H-index 87, with 32,000 citations on Google Scholar) and 23 patents. As an expert in
non-conventional technologies for process intensifi cation, ranging from laboratory to
semi-industrial applications, he collaborates with several industries, including chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, biomaterials, and food production sectors. He is Editor-in-Chief of Processes (MDPI, Basel). Among his numerous awards: The Scientifi c Research Award 2018 “Organic Chemistry for the Environment, Energy and Nanosciences” and the Gold medal “E. Paternò” 2017-2020 by the Italian Chemical Society.
Diego Carnaroglio

Diego Carnaroglio graduated in Chemistry at the University of Turin, Italy in 2011. Following
that, Diego joined the department of Drug Science and Technology where he obtained his
PhD in 2014 in Pharmaceutical and Biomolecular Sciences program: his main research
interest was the application of microwave and ultrasound energy sources to improve
chemical process.
Diego then joined Milestone in 2015 and today he is the Application and Business
Development Manager. He is heading the application and the technical department to
develop innovative solutions to drive the company towards new products to meet customer
needs.
